The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay By: Michael Chabon

Without a doubt, this is my absolute new favorite author and book. This book kept me interested, amazed and turning the page as fast as possible, yet the writing was complex, so it was impossible to race through the book without taking in every detail. The plot itself is about a young man, Josef, who is a trained magician and escapist. His family is Jewish, living in Prague during World War II. Shortly after the invasion of Prague, Josef 'escapes' out and somehow makes it to New York City. His cousin, Sam Clay, is about his age and a big dreamer. In order to raise and save money to bring the rest of Josef's family to America, the two cousins embark on an adventure, writing and illustrating comic books. Joe eventually joins the Army and gets station in Antarctica, shortly after hearing of the inevitable death of his family. He then disappears from the face of the earth for twelve years before he is seen again. This enormously complex plot, with its many twists and turns has placed itself at the top of my favorite books list, a list that has not been topped for almost seven years.
