Saffire By: Sigmund Brouwer

This was a historical fiction/mystery book set during the construction of the Panama Canal. The writing was smooth and rhythmic. It is the type of book you could read in a sitting or over a longer period of time and still enjoy it just the same. The politics and engineering of the time seem to be long forgotten, although the canal remains one of the greatest feats of engineering to this day. This book is a reminder of the literal blood, sweat, tears, and death that surrounded the construction of this wonder. Add in the benefit of a suspenseful mystery and this book had me sold. The best historical fiction release I have read this year!

Thanks to Blogging For Books for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
