Lucky boy was an honest look at the American family from two perspectives. From one side is Soli, an illegal immigrant who crosses the border, pregnant, and tries to make a life for herself in Berkeley, California. Her baby is born, Ignacio, and Soli lives and works for her son until she is put in a detention facility and her son is ripped from her arms.
On the other side, is a young Indian couple, trying to have a child while also living and working in Berkeley, CA. They sign up to foster, and Ignacio lands in their home. THey love him deeply, see his first steps, and care for him with all of their hearts. Behind all of this a custody battle rages for the boy.
This is a book with no right answers and one that brings issues, very prevalent issues, out into the world to breathe.
