Intense, inspiring, and sad are about the only words to describe this book. It is a true story about a girl, Janni, and her family as they struggled through and tried to survive Janni's eventual diagnosis of early onset schizophrenia. Doctors could not diagnose her until years after her first symptoms. Her family lived in fear of violence toward them or her infant brother. A lot of people criticized Michael Schofield for the actions his family took but in my opinion, very few people can ever understand what that family went through, what it was like to live in that exhausting state, all the time. I thought this book was very well written and this family's dedication to their daughter is inspiring.
