Hillbilly Elegy could have been many things. It could have been J.D. Vance on his soap box preaching, it could have been straight research and nonfiction, or it could have been purely stories. Instead, this book was a wonderful blend of his experience growing up in Appalachia and research to support the movement he not only saw, but lived. My book club read Hillbilly Elegy and it sparked a wonderful conversation about poverty, race, and culture in America. I would highly recommend.
