A Thousand Splendid Suns By: Khaled Hosseine

This book was as eye opening as it was beautiful. It was told from the perspective of two women, Mariam and Laila, both married to Rasheed, and abusive husband. They have about a ten year age difference between them. At first the women resented each other but they quickly put their differences aside and became best friends. Mariam could not have kids, but Laila had 2. This book takes place from the 1980's to the early 2000's in Afghanistan. They live and suffer through the communism, terrorism, and eventual upturn of their lives. This book was beautifully written and truly gives a unique viewpoint of the struggles of Afghani's in the recent past.
